この講演では、自由意志、選択、決定論についてのいくつかの伝統的な見解を見ていきます。 古代では、自由意志は魂にある特別な力、あるいは通常の独立した選択だったということがありえました。 しかし多くの占星術、特に予測は、世界が決定論的であることを意味します。 では占星術において選択または自由はどのように存在するのでしょうか？ そしてもし世界が決まっているなら、道徳または不道徳な選択についてどのように述べることができるでしょうか？ ベン・ダイクスはストア哲学と予測についての異なる観点に基づいていくつかの答えを提示します。

In this talk we will look at some traditional views on free will, choice, and determinism. In ancient times, free will could be a special power in the soul, or normal, independent choice. But much of astrology, especially prediction, implies that the world is deterministic, so how does choice or free will exist in astrology? And how can we speak of moral or immoral choices, if the world is determined? Ben Dykes will suggest some answers, based on the philosophy of the Stoics and a different way of looking at prediction.
